Prospective undergraduate students
The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering offers two undergraduate degree programmes, namely the BEng (Mechanical) programme and the BEng (Mechatronic) programme. Both degrees can be obtained within a minimum of four years of full-time study.
As both our programmes are fully accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), our graduates can register with ECSA as Professional Engineers after three years of applicable industrial experience. According to the Washington Accord our programmes are internationally recognised in countries like the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, the USA, Australia, etc.
Graduates from our department's programmes have completed Masters and Doctoral studies at leading universities worldwide.
Please visit the Maties web site for information on application procedures, accommodation, financial matters, bursaries and loans, etc.

If you are not familiar with Stellenbosch and you want to know a bit more about this town and its surroundings, this is one of the many sites you can visit.
Mechanical engineering is characterised by the field's involvement in structures, motion and transfer of energy.
Mechatronic engineering is a new focus area in engineering that promises to become even more important in the future, both in South Africa as well as internationally. With automation as the current key to productivity, the need for mechatronics (which makes it possible to generate simpler, more economical, reliable and versatile systems) increases by the day.
